Ive had my early build 2004 F250 about a month now and posted about a hesitation problem I was having. Seemed to clear up about 2 weeks ago, but problems have returned. The truck misses or hesitates, most of the time under light throttle demand. Yesterday, from a stop, it hesitated, missed, then threw a puff of black smoke followed by blue smoke.
I know the 6.0 has taken some heat, but I love this truck and will do what needs to be done to fix it, but I can't afford to replace every sensor, the turbo, a set of injectors, etc. I'll gladly take it to the shop and tell them what to do, if someone here can me what to tell them.
There are no codes, no pending codes, don't know when it was last flashed. EBP is the latest part number according to FTE, turbo replaced fairly recently, it sat on a lot from Sept-Mar, and the engine oil level is slightly high (just checked because of blue smoke, engine is cold).
Remove and clean the EGR would be a start. Just because the turbo was replaced recently doesn't mean it hasn't rusted because it sat through the wettest months of the year. You can easily clean the EGR yourself with if you follow the simple directions in the tech folder. All you probably need to buy is a can of CARB. cleaner (NOT brake cleaner). Kinda sounds like EGR sticking turbo sticking needs to be driven thing to me. Possibly the ICP sensor, but not if it's running good generally.
