Model Year versus Build Date Question
When did or does Ford start the new model year? My crewcab F-250 has a build date of 8/76. It is titled as a 76. It has a 360 in it. Wouldn't it be more accurate to be a 77 model year? When did Ford shut down the factory in Ontario to retool for the new model year which included the 351M/400 instead of the 360, or was this a way to use up old parts, as Ford has always done?

Some new vehicles are assembled beginning in July or early August. Some are assembled mid August, some are not.
If the date is 8/76 and it has a 360, it has to be a 1976. To verify the date, what are the last six digits of the VIN?
