4x4 on pavement

I was driving my truck today and wanted to change fan speed and wasn't really paying attention to what I was grabbing and engaged the 4wd instead, I didn't notice it until I went to turn and the front end was binding. Do you think this hurt anything, I only drove with the 4x4 on for maybe 3/4 mile until I noticed it. I really hate that the switch is similar to the other ones, I've almost done this before but have always caught myself in time.

you'll be fine. You just aren't supposed to operate it in dig on dry pavement for an extended period. less than a mile wont hurt nothin.

Length traveled has nothing to do with it--it's how much binding was incurred, and what damage it did (if any). The P.O. of my F-250 (a 1997 H.D.--see signature) broke the mounts off of the tailshaft housing of the ZF tranny, by leaving his truck in 4x4 low, while TURNING on a concrete boat ramp. The combination of the extreme stress on the truck (big, heavy boat) and the sharp angle turn he made snapped these ears off of the trans housing.

Hopefully, since your truck was not under such a severe load, you got away with it, but I just wanted to clear up any misconceptions--binding damage can happen in a short distance, as well.
