1992 Ranger coolant problems

I have a 1992 ranger with the 2.3 and my temp gauge has been reading low like almost to the blue C, so i put it on the code scanner and get a 118 code which is coolant tempeture sensor i go to autozone and the switch has a plug in with two wire tips, the guy said it would be on the intake manifold, but i told him i dont think coolant even runs through it, and he said all cars do, so i go home and sure enough i couldnt find one. the only one i found was located on one of the hoses to the heater core. i figured hey coolant goes though there, so i replace that one. drive it around gauge still in the same spot and still giving the 118 code so i pick up my haynes manual for my Tbird and read about the 2.3 coolant sensor, in there it said its on the engine block right under the oil pressure sender. i find it with my hands and its a totally different sensor the plug in is like a spark plug with only one wire and when unpluged my gauge reads zero. what should i do my head hurts from thinking

I'd say you MIGHT do better in the "Cooling, H/V/AC" forum - perhaps even in the "Electrical/Wiring" forum.

Wish I had better advice.

Good Luck - Glenn ...

There are two sensors one with one wire for the gauge and another with two wires for the computer. The code is for the two wire sensor, you may have gotten the code if the truck was not up to temperature. I would try replacing the thermostat for you temperature problem.
