Charging issue

I have a 68 Ford F100 that I have put in a new battery, alternator, voltage regulator, battery cables, starter solenoid. But it seems the battery is still not charging. Now today I found a small cylinder under the voltage regulator that a wire comes from and goes into the plug that connects to the voltage regulator, what is that? Can someone help with this issue please.

I would guess the cylinder is a noise reducer. Has nothing to do with your problem.

I may return the alternator and get another one...did find in other post that the wiring on the voltage regulator plug could be wrong but it was fine prior before someone trying to move the truck reversed the cables when jump starting it. That is why I replaced everything.

Did you say they hooked up the cables wrong by accident?

Yeah the previous owners did and when it start smoking they pulled it off. After I bought the truck I still got it started but I went ahead and replaced what I thought might be affected just in case.
