Going to an Auction

Tomorrow, we are looking for a new grain truck and if this one goes for the right price we will snap it up.

Its a 79 L8000 with a 3208 cat and a 13 spd. I hope it goes for a reasonable price as it would fit our needs nicely. I know some people aren't crazy about the 3208 but it is a fairly fresh motor and we won't be putting alot of miles on it.

I don`t mind my 3208, whiles it`s a bit noisy and under powered at times it certainly gets the job done.
When`s the sale?

Cat 3208's definately dont have the best rep, and they are really really expensive to rebuild when they break, and they are mechanical, so they will break sometime!

(biggest problem from what I hear is that cat didnt put cylinder liners in the engine, d'oh, bad idea on a big diesel)

I dont really care for the ford heavy trucks at all, ive been steered clear from them from my two uncles that are heavy duty mechanics, and a really good buddy from BC that is a heavy duty mechanic, but I hope your for sake it sells for what you want to get it for, and if you do buy it, it works out well for ya!

Today is the sale which is in Neidpath. Part of the reason we decided on this truck is because of the rep of the 3208, as we are hoping that it would scare some people away. The 3208 got a bad rap yet they put it in alot of machinery, I have one in my tractor and it has given me good service for the last ten years and our neigbor has one in his tractor with almost 8000 hrs and no problems but he has done all the suggested service.

The 3208 should lower the price but give you good service with what your doing. I'm going to guess it will be in the 12,000 range

While the 3208 didn`t last in some of the MF tractors it`s an ok engine in Louisville trucks, both of mine have done well for me.

Well, that is what I was thinking too and although it was in nice shape $25,500.00 was way more that what I was going to pay for that truck.

Too bad, this one looked to be real nice, clean and in nice shape. What year was it?
Hopefully another nice Louisville grain truck comes up soon.

It was a 79 and it was in very nice shape. Oh well the search continues.

It must have been in real nice shape for that kind of money and/or a real good auction. I was going to go to an auction today but it was a small one, not too interesting and it would have been too muddy. Was it raining where you were at this sale today?
I never see many decent looking cheaper tandem diesel grain trucks on Kijiji, I`ll keep my eyes open now that I know you`re looking for one.

Just curious which MF tractor had the 3208? I can only think of the 2775 having a V-8 diesel.

The motor had a fresh rebuild and the truck was in nice shape but it was nowhere near immaculate condition. Luckily it was in sandy soil so the mud wasn't to bad but it did rain pretty much the whole time we were there so pretty much everyone was dressed in yellow. I have been checking out the internet the last few weeks since dad has gone on a mission to get a tandem, but any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks Morris

The 2775 had a perkins diesel the 1500, 1505, 1800 and the 1805 all have the 3208 and the early 1500 & 1800's had another V8 cat diesel in them also. Allis Challmers, *****hutt and White also used the 3208.

Preppy, WOW is right. On our way there we decided on 15 as our max bid and after looking at it we decided we could live with going a little higher so we did go to 18 but there was 3 other people that wanted it alot more than we did.
