Injector Lines

So the other day my truck started running rough. Power suddenly went down. I popped the hood and found that my metal injector line that runs from the injector to the #3 cylinder (? 2nd back from front on passenger side) was broken right where it attaches to the cylinder. Bought the part from the Ford house for 70 bucks (since my local scrap yards didn't have it), and now I'm going to replace it. It seems very straight forward. Is there any special precautions I need to take before/after? To me it seems as easy as taking the nuts off each side, and then screwing the new line on. Is it really that easy?

yes pretty much just make sure you don't cross thread the nuts on the injector or the injection pump also make sure to put the vibration clamps back on or more lines will break..

Awesome. Thanks!

What are vibration clamps? I'm not sure this truck has them installed. There is nothing holding any of the lines on this engine (which is a 1985 6.9 diesel btw ... forgot to put that in the original post). At 70 bucks a pop, I'd love to keep any more of them from breaking.

also they keep the metal lines from breaking through vibrations of the engine and road vibrations the clamp acts like an isolator

So my truck is at the ford house for something else. They have the line I need which I have already purchased, and I asked him how much it would be to just install that line for me. I just heard back. According to the Ford house ... they have to lift the entire injector to put that line on, so it would cost me 275 dollars for them to do it. I figured it would be high, but not THAT high. Needless to say ... I said no thanks.

You can install and remove each line no prob. I have done it. see this pic for the line clamp example. This is not the same but you get the idea. I heard from ford that in a pinch, small fuel line to cover each line, then a large one over all the small ones, the strong zipties. That will get you along for quite some time.

EDIT found the injector line parts chart, this will help a lot!!!

Edit 2 that pic is in my album.

Great idea on making a vibration clamp. I'll have to see what I can come up with. Looking at where this line attached, it didn't look hard at all to me. Looked like anyone with the right sized box end wrench could do it.

that si why i dropped about 80 bucks on s curved wrenches. They make life easy when it comes to injector lines and similar. With regards to making one, you gotta make sure the hose for the line separators is tough as nails or check it monthly.
