Newbie here! I have an 1999 Expy (was a gift) with 209,000 miles....The person that gave it to me took very good care (oil changes, etc.) of the truck. WHen the engine light came on the EGR valve code came up and that was changed (December), the light came back on. The truck seemed to be running normally so we just kept it moving. THe truck has started to "putt-putt" a little as if it wants to cut off. I took it in and was told the DPFE sensor, EGR Valve and vaccum need to be removed and replaced, got that done and the light went off...Drove a little and the light came back on and the truck is "putt-putt'ing" even worse....Any ideas?
A great deal depends on wheere the oil is on the plugs. If the electrodes are drenched with oil you may have a serious internal engine problem, if the oil is on the outside of the plugs you may need to have some resealing done on the top end.
Like "Moto Mel" said, if you have oil on the electrodes then you have a big problem, somewhere there is oil getting into the combustion chamber and getting on the plug and making it foul out, which might explain your putt putt when you were driving. If the oil is on the ceramic part of the plug then its probably just a leak somewhere.
