Reliability Mod questions

I have the few mods listed in my sig. Since I installed the Insight I have learned that my eot / ect temp spread is around 15 degrees unloaded and gets around 20 pulling 10k. I have decided to do the following:
Sinister EGR delete
Oil cooler rebuild kit
Updated turbo drain
Clean the turbo
Coolant flush
Updated fuel pressure regulator kit
3.5 MBRP down pipe (I have cat back now)

Am I on the right track? Anything else needed?

Thanks in advance

Ask someone that does heavy towing like Tex to comment on your EOT/ECT spread.

I wonder at what point is an external oil cooler warranted.

I suggest you consider inspecting the alternator wiring (pigtail), and also upgrading the wiring from alternator to starter solenoid, and also wiring from battery to solenoid. Plus a through cleaning of the connections.

A reasonably accurate and fast responding volt meter to constantly monitor actual voltage during normal operation, while cranking, etc. is a big plus.

But that is just me....

You need to install a coolant filter. The oil cooler is what plugs 1st and then takes the egr cooler out.

Are those spreads spikes or are they constant spreads? If constant then it looks like you are have the beginnings of a few problems.

You're going to need to get an SCT with tunes to tell the truck's computer you no longer have the EGR valve and for it to stop looking for it.

Also be sure to inspect their up-pipe, I'm always getting questions about exhaust leaks through the up-pipe and they are 8 out of 10 tens after this kit having been installed.

In-Cab Fuel PSI gauge as well. OBD-II monitors do not display that information from the DLC due to the fact that there is no fuel PSI PID in the truck's computer.

I see you have a coolant filter. I would change out the oil cooler while you have the truck torn down. You have an 05 so you have the Snap to Connect(SCT) HPOP fitting. While you have the turbo and intake off, replace the STC fitting with the $45 one piece fitting. It is not that difficult at all. Look around on here for STC fitting threads. I know Cheezit has answered the tech part of the install.

Regards

Like everyone is saying check the STC fitting, i plan on it when my truck gets torn down, worth it since your in that deep, also get the oil cooler fixed fast, i didnt know mine was goin bad and i have an 80 degree difference, which is probably what caused my hg's to crap out, anyways, if you go by and see nick the guy i recomended to you, if you ask he'll pressure test your hg's for you, its worth it to know if you need hg's before you do alot of work then have to go back in 3 months later.

tex25025, those temps are consistent, not spike. this morning coming to work at 5am unloaded at 70mph eot was 201 and ect was 187. As I said, towing it's worse than that. As far as the SCT, i'm hoping if I leave the EGR valve hooked up I wont get a CEL. And fuel pressure gauge is on my list.

Ricatic and lakewood, I had the STC fitting upgraded previously. I will also be replacing the screen in the HPOP reservoir (IPR screen?) and getting the latest flash.

Thanks again.

1. Consult Tex, but he will probably say you are on the verge of oil cooler failure and other related issues.

2. Leaving EGR plugged in may not do it, on the late 05s and onward, there is a EGR gas detection circuit that need to be disabled as well.

3. Fuel pressure - a mechanical gauge is always a great backup to a electronic one!

Yep, if it was just spiking there might have been some wiggle room, but if it's a constant spread, then I'm pretty sure there is something going on there. That 20* spread while towing is just too much. Unless maybe your just straining the truck with the load your carrying, but 10k shouldn't do that. A 5.4 can handle 10k or should be able to.

05s and up, you'll get an EGR performance/range code. It won't throw a CEL, but it'll be there. You really need to have some type of computer "program" that goes in there and tells the computer that it no longer needs to "look" for information coming from the EGR system.

I tend to prefer having it in cab and being that I don't like fluids running around in-cab with me, I tend to advocate more the eletric gauge and it seems to be accurate enough. Cold weather it takes it awhile, but even then it's only off by 1 or 2 psi and that's due to the fact it relies on an electric signal and those signals tend not to like cold temps until everything gets warmed up.

You would never make Captain of the African Queen.

Mechanical gauge on top of engine, backed up by electrical gauge in cab is the way for a super geek to go!

I would have had a setup like that had I left the mechanical gauge on ITP's Regulator, but I took it out to put in the probe for the electric one.

Yaa, You can always have the wife ride under the hood with a walkie-talkie to compare WOT readings.

Oh yea, she'll love me after that for sure. She already thinks I'm obsessed with the truck already(and I don't know why), but that would, I think, be hitting a little high on the addiction meter.
