Engine and axle swap?
I have two F-350s. A 91 and a 97. The 91 has a 351W in it and the 97 has a 460 in it. I want to swap the engines and the rear axles. How much work is it for a father and son to do. We ain't master mechanics, but we know a thing or two...I don't want to pay someone to do it n I would really like to know if its going to be too hard for me to do by myself so that I can save up money...

why are you swaping? need to make sure the rear axels have the same gear ratio or you'll have to do the fronts too. also you are most likely swapping a 460 MAF motor to a 351w SD (speed density) motor... so you'll have computers to swap and rewireing to do.

the 351 gets 2x more gas mileage. its much better... and the rear end is posi. i do alot of towing and also off-roading so it helps. they're both dana 60 rear ends is all i know.

get the axle codes from both door jams and we could tell you what gear ratio is in each. that is assuming that the rear ends are both still stock. I would look a some of the MAF conversion forumns on here. If I were you I'd convert the 351w to MAF before sticking it in the 97.
