At least $75 around here for an 850' drive. Likely a c-note.

Wow,,,,$15 bucks for 850 ft !!,,,what year was that,,,,1970,,,lol,,,I do my neighbors,,for $15 bucks,,(its worth more I know),basicly I plow my driveway down accrossed his,,clean the entrance,,,make 2 pass's up his drive,,,about 80 ft,,they cant afford much!

I have plowed for many years,,,,after shoveling my parents driveway many years as a kid,,,,,nothing will **** you off more then shoveling that heavy snow at your driveway entrance,,plowed up by the state,,,,getting it clean,,,then they go by again and whammo,,you got another foot thick to shovel !!
Thats one reason I have a plow !! other is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I get PD $ 85.00 an hour plowing with a buddy,,,Pennies from Heaven !!

Cities don't plow private lots holmes. Somebody's got to do it. Putting them on trucks makes the plow highly mobile, quick, and comfortable for the operator in the cab. I don't know about you, but I'd sure as hell rather be in my crew cab F-250 with a Monster Energy drink in the cup holder, Sirius Satelitte radio going, and it being so nice and toasty that I have to crack the window a bit, rather than be freezing my *** off in a skid steer or other machine.

The difference is incredibly funny. I sit in my t shirt and jeans, and occasionally slip into sandals if my feet get uncomfortable, while the guys who run the skid steers have on two layers of long johns, carhartt bibs and jackets, insulated socks and boots, and tammy hats. They have cab heaters BTW, but you never get as warm in a skid steer as you do in a truck. They just are not insulated as well.

I've never lived in a heavy snowfall area, so the most snow I have seen (other than in the mountains) is about 6 inches. It's one thing to hear about places getting a ton of snow, but hearing from those who deal with it is another thing.

Thanks for the perspective.
Unless it gets really bad, never. We pay taxes to get that taken care of, and snow plowing beats the living hell out of a truck. Why should we crack our trucks on poorly maintained roads when we A, pay taxes to have them maintained, B, pay taxes to have them plowed. That's like paying twice, with the second payment adding up to much more than it was ever worth.

I've offered the guy more money, but he refuses. No, not 1970, this is current.

Like I said, I have no idea how the money even covers his fuel costs.

My property is so tight that my '01 Crew/short F350 would be too long and hard to manuver. I plow with an '83 GMC pickup and a 7'6" Western pro-plow. The truck is chained up (all four wheels) all the time. I have a steep driveway with deep ditches, and one mis-calculation and you're big-time stuck. Without chains, you cannot plow the snow at all. The best part of the GMC is the SM465 manual tranny with a granny low. The worst part is the small-block 350 that sprayed piston rods and parts all over the ground during a blizzard a few years back. In defense of the GMC, it has a good turning radius and the 10-bolt front end has not exploded in years of plowing. As another person mentioned, being inside a warm truck cab with the tunes cranked up sure beats sitting high atop a Farmall or Massey freezing to death, while plowing.

I am buying a plow for my truck this summer. I bought my truck used and it came all wired and with push plates for a fisher plow, all I need is a minutemount plow. I am looking at about $1500 for the plow and I am all set.I usually spend about 500 a year on having my 200 ft driveway plowed, so after 3 years it will have paid for itself.

That's how it starts.... Then you're cruising over to a few friends' houses to 'help' them out. Next, you're being waved down by neighbors struggling with shovels. Then you find yourself with a small 'route' of customers and a decent pile of cash in your pocket.

Oh, and don't forget about how fun strobe lights can be!!

come to think of it, almost every house on my road has a pickup with a plow lol

my driveway

Here's my old set-up. I've changed and added a few things since this video, but you get the idea.

By the time you buy the plow and repairs to the truck and tires I don't see much money being made.

there can be alot of money made, just depends.

with the small amount i do...about 7-10 drives per storm which isnt much. over the last ten years i've had no plowing related repairs done to the truck hell for that matter the plow. but i dont do it commericaly(sp) though and with gas prices it has to be alot harder then it was years ago.
