I'm just about to pull the trigger in some new tires and rims and I have run into a little bit of confusion with regards to TPS swap out. I currently have 275/65/18s on my 09 FX4. I will be going to 305/55/20s with the new tires. The tire place told me to contact the Ford dealership, tell them what size tires I am going to, and order the new bands.
Well I just off the phone with the parts guy at my local dealership and he says my year truck does not have bands and the sensor is in the stem. When I asked what I needed then for my new tires he said he didn't know. Has anyone with an 09 run across this problem? If it is in the stem, can you just transfer the stems over? Can some one help me here?
That's correct there are no bands. The sensor screws onto the valve stem. My tire shop went over to the dealer and picked up some new stems and threw them in for free, and then reused my old sensors.
Now take your truck to the shop, quit worrying, and let them handle it.
