Ok i posted in the ranger section but apparently that side is dead. Today im going to go look at a 83 ranger so i can put my f-150 out for some repairs. Yall know of anything i should look for? I don't really care about the body as long as it aint falling off. but mainly the engine and trans is a 4 cyl 2.0 4spd 2wd. as far as i know it runs good drives good, but I've never dealt with a carb'd motor so new experience. thanks in advance.
high idle... i've seen plenty of those rangers that are tired and worn out... so instead of fixing them properly the owner will adjust the idle up to 1500 or better to keep it running. And of course look for the usuall wear and tear, leaks etc. Finding need to do repairs always helps with bargaining down the price!
1000 rpm maybe 1200rpm. $300 is a good price if everything is close to working.my dads ranger was a 88-90ish and had efi... i'd rather have the carb because his electronics went bad. those 2.0L motors weren't bad. Under-powered most definatly but then again ford made rangers for townies origionally...
ok so no truck for me, got there looked it over driver side front panel had been replaced. passenger side had been backed into and broke the turn signal off. valve cover leak. brakes were sooooo stiff i could only press down the pedal maybe an inch. the clutch was normal till you had it all the way to the floor then it felt like someone tapping real hard on the bottom of my shoe. for $300 yeah sure but not for what i needed it for. so the search is still on to find something to drive so i can take my 150 out of service for a little bit.
