my 03 6.0 with 174,000 just hauled 1300,00 to florida and never hiccuped. 1 icp and an alternator in all those miles . still has original baterries and runs great. just lucky ,i guess

I'm not saying that all 6.0L's are bad, but out of the 4 people that I know 3 of them have had major problems with the motor.
Sandman, thank you and all the other vets that have served for this great country.

I was told today, that Ford has had this 6.7 out testing it since 2005 with many millions of miles on it.
I drove a 2011 in Terrell, TX a few days ago and like it very much. It was a F-350 CC long bed DRW
4X4 and it rode and drove great.

You are right True Blue, the truck will never last as long as that engine. You see so many old dodge trucks with the first series cummins in them just junked out but the engines are still good....

The new motor is as refined as a Duramax. Points for that, if you care about that kind of thing. It does make mine feel like a 1963 D5 Cat. Good thing I like 1963 D5 Ag Cats...

The troubling thing about the new motor is the complexity. Two cooling systems? Seriously? And is it a good idea to mount that intercooler down low where frozen corn stalks will take it out next fall?

And how about all that foil-wrapping between the turbo and the firewall? Bet that area gets hot with the reversed heads. How about during harvest?

I really like the 59k sticker price. For a pickup? Certainly not a working truck.

In the end, while I like my 2007 F350- I got done looking at the new truck feeling like I appreciated my truck even more. First time I ever came across a new model relieved that I didn't need one. And if my 2007 should burn or wreck tomorrow?

-mike
And how can you tell that the stampings on the door are low quality? To be honest that doesn't even come into the realm of decision making when I go to look at a truck.
Do you really think that ford was thinking about "frozen corn stalks" when they designed that truck? I bet not bc i would think it is a non issue.
Foil wrapping has been used on trucks for years. To be honest, I think your nit picking the truck and a customer that ford would never know that they lost.

I agree guthrie!

I find it hilarious that someone complains about the Ford body, and at the same time says "Dodge hands down". Yep, that makes sense.

In any case, in the past generally all of the people who described their ideal truck would want the Ford for everything except the diesel engine. Time will tell if the new Ford 6.7 is good or not, but for now, I'd consider one if my 2006 PSD 6.0 didn't have just 32K miles on it!

Dodge. Hands down.

It has a proven drivetrain and you can work on the motor. And that is enough to make up for the rest of Dodge's weaknesses.

So go buy a Dodge then if that is what you so earnestly desire. Have fun with said Dodge in a few years and hope that Dodge doesn't go out of business once FIAT wises up to what a bad deal they made.

As for your other concerns, about low quality stampings and seals I am not sure what you are looking for there. Do you regularly have door seals fail on you? I've never had them go bad on any vehicle I've ever owned maybe you are unusually hard on a vehicle or maintain one poorly compared to me. Who knows.

Frozen corn stalks? Really? Do you have steel tires? I would imagine your rubber tires would be completely destroyed by anything hard enough and sharp enough to puncture a metal intercooler/radiator. If you are really so concerned about such things, maybe you should buy a good skid plate to protect all the lower engine and suspension components. After all those sharpened steel rebar corn stalks could also punch through your oil pan, or maybe your front axle pumpkin too!

$59K is too much, then buy a truck with fewer options. Do you really think they will only make a King Ranch model for you?

I would imagine that the axle pumpkin would be leaking seeds everywhere by the time harvest season was over. Come to think of it that might not be an issue since we are farming here....

Big Bad, I believe that claim was made in late 2007 haha. Although with my 6.0, which was an early build 03, it didn't have much in the way of motor warranty work done. Most was done on the transfer case before I had it. Then while I had it still under warranty the alt was replaced and a couple injectors. Still had an original injector left at 230 some odd thousand km's even.

Sorry that I did not get certified, notarized copies of the quotes direct from Dearborn.

I have owned 3 Powerstrokes starting with a 97 crewcab one ton, 03 crewcab one ton, 05 crewcab one ton, and have ordered a 2011 crewcab one ton.

The 97 was my favorite sofar. Had it chipped soon after I bought it (20,000 miles) exhaust, lift and 35s. towed with it all the time and no probs but batteries and cam sencer. sold it with 100,000.

Ordered the 03 with the hype of better fuel economy and more power( still have the broshure) and it ran hard. Lifted it 35s, NO CHIP or Exhaust. before the lift it got 17-18mpg. after the lift it was aroung 15(same as the 97 with lift and tires & mods)
Then came the reflashing, which went to 13mpg. Then 3 rear main seals, injectors, 3 turbos, FICM, and a new motor. (which was one of the turbo losses).
So I traded it with 36,000 miles. ( threatened Limen Law).

Purchased an 05. Chipped(tow setting from superchip) and exchaust at 10,000 miles ( didnt have the power like the 03) was told and read that the 05 was better then the 2 previouse years.
At 30,000 lost injectors. At 34,000miles lost First set of heads, at 38,000 Lost second set of heads and egr cooler. Replaced with Liberator heads(complete rebuilt & 60psi tested), ARP head studs, EGR delete, fuel loop kit( to make it idle better) Head coolant bypass kit, banks intake & intercooler, 07 turbo drain tube.
After all that it was back to what the 97 and 03 was like.
THEN the Hpop started to wig out( 55,000miles). so I traded it in on a new one.

I probably bit the same turd for the 3rd time. I am really hoping that this one is trouble free and the mpg is there. I love everything about the trucks that I have had but the engine has been kinda sketchy.

Thats the experiance that I have had with my fords, and im sure that there will be people that will say because of the mods to the 05 is the issue but its no different then the previouse things I have done to the earlier models( the 03 was stock except leveling kit and 35s).

I am obviously a diehard Ford guy and hope all is good for this one (3rd time is a charm)!

Just read this. Kinda funny. "
Legendary flops in automotive history

All told, it cost Ford more to repair the faulty Pintos than it cost to make them. Some were downright 'hideous'
