im lookin at a 66 short bed w/ a 429 and a c6. From what ive heard curb weight is around 3700ish. i would like to run it at the local friday night strip now and again just for fun, not a real race truck. is my estimate of 3700 pounds reasonable, and what are some things i can do to cut weight? thanks for any help
i can not think of much you could do to make your truck light, but, i never really thought about it before either. you may be closer to 4000 with the 429 in it.
Where is this truck that you are looking to buy? I know of one in my area, just wondering.
The short truck will likely be closer to 3500 than 4000. I have a friend in the Lexington NC area that I might be able to connect you up with that runs The Old Farm Truck a dentside with a W in it.
Send me an email through my user if you want, and I'll forward it to him.
theres a 13 gallon fuel cell under the bed already. discs up front, drop beams up front and the 9 inch rear is flipped over the springs to lower the back
18 gauge steel... it's just heavy. The hood is 60 lbs, and the doors (w/glass) are 70lbs each. I decided to weigh them after struggling to move them around the garage for paint, etc.
yeah. im beginning to think this is a lost cause. plus the bed is double walled isn it? unlike the 50's effies where its just sinngle piece of steel for the bed side. and i really wont go to glass over o.g steel
im not tryin to knock any1 with the flare side but i just dont think they look as good. and i will look into the newer rods too thanks
i think if i just throw like a 4.10 or 4.56 gear in it itll just be a fun lil truck thatll move out pretty damn quick. ive started to accept the fact that this isnt the best platform for a drag vehicle hahaaa
