All great ideas and suggestions. Thanks so much for all your input. I checked everything I could think of. I jacked it up and pulled, pushed, twisted and yanked on the wheels and looked underneath. Everything seems tight. I'm at work today and work 24 on 48 off, so it will be tomorrow before I can take another look at it. But I really appreciate all the input. I may just have to get another job for the summer and give classes a break. Anyway I'll check some more things tomorrow. Be safe! Reave, as for your description, mine's a little different. It only pops if I let it coast to a stop, put it back in gear, then when I take off, it will pop. Or it will pop when I back up, then turn left and take off. It's DEFINITELY NOT the axle, or any looseness there. There's no popping if I just start and stop, if I put it in gear then take it out and put it in reverse, back up, then change directions, like it would if there was something loose in the driveline. that WONT make it pop. It will ONLY pop if I coast to a stop or back up right, then turn left.
You may want to check out TSB 10-07-03. It states something like "Some 2008-2011 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit a pop or clunk noise heard/felt under floor pan when turning, and may be more noticeable when cold. "
The procedure states to remove the #1 cab mount bolts (the ones under the driver's and passenger's feet) and remove all existing threadlocker. Apply new threadlocker and install bolts, torqueing to 87 ft-lbs. If that doesn't fix the concern, the TSB has you install a shim between the mount and the body.
will look into it. Have searched for the TSB, cant find one. Found one referring to a coil spring replacement, but not one for this. Maybe it's not posted yet?? Can you send a link? thanks
The difference is on the thread above, it "clunks" instead of "pops" and does it all the time, regardless of whether we have backed up, turned, or whatever.
I can't post the TSB, they're copyrighted, but I assure you the TSB is more or less as I instructed you to do. It shouldn't take more than a half hour at the most to do both sides and costs nothing. I can't say for sure this is what the OP is experiencing, but it's easily checked and the price is right.
I performed this repair in the past before it was a TSB. Each of the trucks had a pop/snap noise from the firewall area whenever the frame twisted, like pulling in and out of driveways or when hitting the brakes or throttle with the wheel turned. You could feel the pop in the floorboard on some of these.
The TSB is listed on Ford's internal website for techs, PTS, and comes up when running OASIS with a symptom of noise from the front. It was published on April 7, 2010. Any dealership should be able to show you a printout if you really want one.
FireMe, I'm not implying the TSB doesn't exist. In actuality I appreciate you providing the information. I was just saying when I searched for it with resources available to me and others here, where other TSB's are listed, it didn't show up. I appreciate the information and plan on looking at that particular problem area. I always like to at least look at the TSB as they usually have more info. My truck seems to be popping because of a looseness in the mounting of the front part of the suspension/cab as opposed to a driveline problem. It definitely pops because the front end is pushed back by the braking of the front brakes when stopping, then taking back off, it seems. Or when turning. Again, I appreciate the information very much.
