My 98 expy needs a heater core, were should I get it from the dealer or
the local auto parts store (autozone),etc. Its leaking and im smelling coolant inside the air vents.
They take a lot of labor to change. I get mine from a radiator shop that pressure tests them before I take them. It's worth the extra cost to me. I've installed some before that and had to take them right back out with a crack or bad solder point, even though I tesed them at the shop and they checked good. The radiator shop has a special method for testing them.

PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you a pretty good set of instructions on how to replace it. Like was mentioned, it's a pretty intensive job but doable. It took me about 10 hours of work to do mine, and hopefully I won't ever have to do that again.
I changed mine at the same time I replaced a blend door. It took me 8 hours. SUCKS!
I used alldatadiy.com for my instructions. It was still a pain in the butt! I believe on a skill level of 1-10, you should be an 8. Keep lots of sandwich bags and painters tape and mark all screws as to where they go. Do not drag it out longer than a weekend or you will be left with a mess as you will forget where some of the parts go back in!
Also, beware of the air bags. FOLLOW the instructions to keep it from deploying!
what they are telling you is you almost have to remove the complete Dash to exchange the Heater core. ( they mentioned 10 hrs)I live in South Florida and was lucky that i was able to bypass the heater core. I use the rear Heater to heat the vehicle the one time it got down to 40. It would have been so much simpler if the rear core went. oh yea leave out some screws when putting back together and it will squeak i am told.
