Cool Stalling when in reverse or drive!!!

Hey Guys,
I have a 2002 f250, v-10, automatic, 4x4, 140,000
Over the past 2 weeks i have had the truck stall when im comming to a stop. It lunges then dies. It starts right up fine and idels fine but when I try putting it in gear, either one, it dies. i noticed that when it stalls the battery light is on. I let it run for 5 minutes and tried putting it in gear and i drove fine. I'm planning on changing the fuel filter and maybe pump this weekend and maybe a new battery. Anybody have some ideas what may be causing this???Thanks

Sounds to me like an IAC valve.

If you give it a little bit of throttle during the shift will it still stall? If so it points to an IAC valve. Same for when you're coming to a stop, if a little throttle pressure keeps it running the Idle Air Control(IAC) valve is likely stuck.

If it still won't stay running it could be some other things. Is the check engine light on? If so, you'll have to get it scanned at your local parts store to see the code. When you find it out let us know and we'll try and help you some more.

The battery light will come on whenever the ignition is on and the engine isn't running. This is because the alternator is no longer spinning and charging the battery.

Yes i'll give it throttle when i'm comming to a stop and i'll do the same and give it some gas when im trying to shift and still dies. I had a previous problem with the check engine light and the gas cap light staying on for about a week now still trying to get that problem figured out. I tried a new gas cap and that didn't do anything so i'm wondering if these 2 problem are related or just bad timming!

Hate to bring this to the top but I have a 99 F250 with a 5.4 with a similiar condition. Did you ever find the cause?

my ex with the v-10 was doing the same thing brought it to ford said it was a ground problem worked great for a month and then started dying again ran an extra ground wire from block to batt. worked great for about two weeks. tried everything ford said pcm bad. didnt believe it. ( this had been going on for about three months) the otherday my alt started going out when I changed it where the batt. cable hooks up was burnt. With new alt on it runs perfect does great. Ps went through the iac route as well it would stall if sitting while in gear, if i popped it in nuetral it would run all day. Hope this hopes someone out
