Hi,
I have a 06 V10 and after I changed the oil the other day, the check engine light went on. Checking codes I found P420 catylast efficiency bank 1. I cleared the code and a couple of days later it reset right after I started the truck up, before I even got out of the driveway. The truck has 23k on it and the O2 sensors were replaced less than 5k ago because of a TSB on the exhaust rattle. Another observation is that when the truck sits for a couple of days and I start it up, I see blue smoke out the tailpipe. Do I have a contaminated Cat because of an oil burning problem or is there someother easy solution to this? I spoke to my Ford dealer about it and their basic response was it is out of warranty and I should not use 93 octane gas as it is to rich for the cats. Maybe they should have told me to use the correct headlight fluid also. Anybody had this problem and know what the solution might be? I really hope I do not have a cat problem at 23k.
Thanks,
JWR

I did not check the oil before I changed it, however it could have done a quart. I had been 6386 miles since the last change. Would that make a difference? I did have a problem last winter after a fillup. The truck misfired on multiple cylinders and belched lots of smoke. I shut it off to pull codes and got misfire codes. Upon restart it ran fine. It has not happened again but someone mentioned PCV system as a culprit

Blue smoke at startup means you're burning oil. Finding where it comes from is the trick.
As for the warranty, you might want to remind your Ford dealership that the Catalytic converter is covered under the mandated emission control warranty, which is 50k miles and 8 years for vehicles over 8500 GVW, if I recall correctly.
