Muffler Delete

I've read on here that a lot of ya'll delete the muffler, well I was talking to my g-pa the other day and he said if I did that I would lose back pressure and my turbo wouldn't spin??? I couldn't argue with him because I wasn't sure one way or the other... Is this true? Can I remove my muffler and it be just fine? Is there any sensors to replace like on gas burners? I plan on going 4" in the future, but I was wanting to do this until then...

Thanks in advance...

That is not true. You can delete the muffler and everything will work just fine. Most people here replace the factory muffler with a walker BTM muffler. Do a search for walker BTM and you will find all the info you need. Also if you are planning on doing this or larger exhaust you will need to get a WW or a ported compressor housing.

i found an MRBP 4" turbo back system for about 300 and it came with a "muffler". pretty much a straight pipe that has some baffles in it. not something that i would call a muffler as compared to the OEM. i did feel a small amount of power out of the deal too.
hope this helps

The turbo creates all the back pressure you need for a diesel. Take the muffler off and put a straight pipe in its place, then you will be good to go untill you get the 4" turbo back exhaust. The better the truck can inhale and exhale, the better it likes it.

I have a hypertech programmer, plan on replacing with DPTuner or something similiar soon, and plan on doing a 6637 pretty soon. I just dropped a $K on new ball joints, hubs and seals from Ed and Warn Manual Lockers, so those things will have to wait a bit. Other than that its a stock cc lariat with a 6 spd manual. I was wanting to cut just the muffler out and put a piece of pipe in its place, if it will not hurt anything. Will it be annoyingly loud? And is the muffler delete equalivent or close to a 4" turbo back?

Good you are taking care of the maintainers stuff before you start the mods. I took my muffler off my truck in '03 and had a superchip at the same time. You could not notice much of a difference with the muffler out going down the road. You sound like you have a good plan working for the mods. Take your time and do it right the first time, and ask here with all the question you have. We will be happy to help you.

I went to a muffler shop and had them weild a piece of 3.5" exhaust pipe in the place of the muffler. Nothing fancy.
