Well last week my truck started making a very faint noise when I let off the throttle at highway speeds. I will attempt to describe the noise.
It is a very thin almost tinny noise that would be a very faint rattling but also an obvious spinning noise that decelerates. The noise lasts about a second after releasing the throttle and then goes away. My instincts are saying turbo related but it sounds like its coming from the transmission tunnel. Hard to tell at highway speed from the drivers seat.
I think you are on the right track. Possibly turbo impeller but the first thing I would check is the flex joints on the y-pipe behind the turbo. If one of the flex joints is broken it could be whistling or leaving black smoke inside the motor compartment. Also pull the air intake pipe at the turbo and see if you can see the impeller rubbing against the turbo housing. There should be little to no wiggle in the impeller.
Well I guess I'll just have to let it ride for a bit. Been working 7 days a week and trying to get all my hay equipment operational so I can cut in 2 weeks. Zero time to work on anything else until then. I have a spare turbo in the event I need to swap it out. Thanks for the input. If I am removing the turbo for any reason the EGR is getting deleted at that time.
