AT fluid level

My son's girlfriend has a 1994 F150 with an auto tranny. I think the engine is 5.0L and it's 2wd. I've worked with a lot of industrial gearboxes and always found there is a small difference between the high oil level and the low oil level. I don't know anything about auto trannies. We checked the oil level on the dipstick and it is way high compared to the dipstick marks. I know it should be in the marking range on the dipstick but I was wondering how high it can get before causing problems. Anyone know?

Were you checking the level with the engine running and in Park?

Also was the trans at operating temp?

If so, it should be between the high and low marks..

Too much oil will cause foaming and will not lube as it should and could cause damage...

Thanks White97.
Yes, it was in Park and running at normal operating temp.

Did you run it through all the gears manually or just let it run in park? sometimes when i check mine if i don't run it through all the gears it'll be a little high but if i run it in the gears, it'll fill everything up inside. dunno but it's the way I've always done it and i've noticed a difference if i don't.
