pirrelis are terrible. This past winter my 09 FX4 sat immobile for weeks at a time because it was dangerous to drive - if it would move at all. I have a set of LTX on my old Bronco and it will go anywhere anytime in any conditions. Tires are the big thing, but next time around I will be looking at the Bridgestone Dueler Revos as I have had several sets and they are great in any conditions. The BFG are really good as well, but the Revos have better road manners in my opinion.
How sad is that? An "off-road" truck couldnt be drove in the winter because of the crummy tires.
I've run both BFG and Goodyear all terain tires on three 4X4's and the best I have found in overall performance was the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S. Great offroad and great in deep snow. I live in NW Indiana right off Lake Michigan and we get a ton of snow. My old F 350 with Goodyears loved it. Plus I've never been able to put the mileage on a AT tire like I did on those Goodyears. 85K miles and still had plenty of tread left.
Oh, and they also were comfortable on dry pavement.
My wife went to the dealer the other day to look at some accessories and the salesman came out to look at what we'd done with the truck. He noticed some wear on the stock Goodyears with only 4,000 miles on them and pointed it out to my wife. He was confused when my wife replied "My husband will be so happy to hear that!" and asked her why. She said "well, he can't wait to wear these tires out so he can get something bigger!"
Thanks Fishhawk. Thats a nice referance I will look into. I have never been crazy about Goodyear tires, but their latest offereings are attractive. I have the 20" wheels and choices are limited, so I will shop open-mindedly. I think any A/T tire is better than the Pirrellis. I live in a rural area, have four seasons, and drive extended trips in my truck so I would like to have a capable tire. I think the Scorpions are a compramise for the urban/suburban truck owner in which they are pretty good.

I love that woman!
+1000. My wife eats car salesmen for lunch. She is glad to defer them to me (23yrs Benz/Porsche factory tech/motorsports crew). I too am chewing thru the scorpions asap. Since new, my truck has the steering wheel slightly off-center. It is a bit out of alignment and scrubbing the outside of the tires quick. I have refrained from taking it in for an alignment just to eat those tires off. Local dealer just got a new Hunter alignment rack. I will be there soon. I wonder if I can make a claim against the tires because of the alignment?? Hmmmmm, NOT. especially if they want to put more Pirellis on there.

I'd get the alignment soon. Your wheel bearings could be paying the price as well for the misalignment.
Yea. I think I will get them on the job this week. I really don't care about the tires as stated above, but there is no reason to let a problem go. Interestingly, the truck is not bad out of align. I have taken tire temp readings with a tire pyrometer and they are pretty close. I did put half a turn toe-in on the drivers side and that did wonders, and straightened the wheel. By no means is this a fix, but it does tell me it could be out.
glad to see I am not the only one to absolutely hate those POS Pirelli tires
Goodyear Silent Armour or Duratrac to replace these puppies. I'm at 10,000 miles though and the damn things have probably another 15,000 miles of life left though. Can't justify the $1,400 for better tires at this point
-snip-. Can't justify the $1,400 for better tires at this point
I could not have said it better. I want better ones, but the practical person in me says wear these out first; in my twenties I would have just done it. I really like the Michelins too and I have decided that I'll go to these once I wear these ATRs out!
I forgot the F-150 got the ATR. The Expy gets the STR for the 20's
Your ATR is a better tire, but not by much. I've been trying to sell my STR's on craigslist for 2-3 months now. Keep hoping someone hard up for tires will pay me 1/2 the price of new so I can get decent rubber
