My truck hasn't been driven much over the past two years so I never really used the a/c since I was driving it daily. Now that my daughter is driving the Taurus on her permit, I'm driving the '88 every day.
I retro fitted to R-134A about 8 years ago and replaced the compressor, orifice tube and condenser at that time.
So today I charged the system as I refuse to sweat after walking 12 miles a day and she's running cold as hell. It's not absolutely perfect and the idle isn't perfect either with the compressor running but it's pretty damned good. No complaints with 197K on the clock.
Glad to hear it worked out for you. Many of the R-134a conversions have ended in catastrophic failure due to technician/owner induced shortcuts.
+1 on that!
That's one thing I can say about my truck is that there are no shortcuts anywhere. Everything has been repaired / replaced to factory specs weather I did it or paid to have it done.
