Help, I just picked up an 05 F550 and the drivers mirror has no power to it. It will not adjust but the passenger side mirror works fine. Any suggestions - I have basic skills and am willing to try anything. Hopping its just a wire loose or something.
It's an electrical problem. This means you start at one end or the other and trace it back. You are probably looking for a disconnected connector, or the motors are fried. There are 2 motors, so can you get it move 1 way at all (up/down vs L/R)? If so then 1 motor is probably bad.
How I would start: Check for voltage at the mirror motors when you activate the switch. No voltage means the problem is upstream. Voltage means the motor is probably toast (but you should verify it before replacing - it could be just a bad connection at the motor). Then keep working your way upstream until you hit the switch. Since you have the pass side working, you must have power at the switch, so it isn't a fuse.
There is no magic to tracing electrical faults. It is just putzy work and takes time and a voltmeter.
Does the mirror have the lights in it? If so do the lights come on? If not then I would check the plugs under the driver door switch panel. If nothing is disconnected or loose then its time to get the volt meter out and start at the mirror and work your way in. Good Luck
