1977 351m

I tring to find out if I am missing some stuff the truck is a 1977 f250 highboy that im doing a ground up on and bought with a bad motor. I got the motor back together after a complete rebuild and seem to be having trouble getting belts one belt runs the altenator, fan, and around the bottom pulley. The secound belt go around the powersteering pulley and around the botttom pulley. When I got the truck there was no tensioners no smog pumps what gives I have been to napa 6 times and if im missing a pump or something I would like to no. Also did the steering conversion and used a 78 steering box does anyone know what high pressure line to use the powersteering pump is the old one that ran the old system any help would be great.
Thanks paul.

I have a '78 F100, had a 351M in it, the power steering line on mine wasn't compatible with the new engine and set up I put in it (351W out of a '85 Club Wagon XL) the end that plugs into the power steering pump itself was different. Had to have one made for it, but if you are going back with the original pump it should work fine...the thread depth was different on my conversion. but that was just for the Pressure Hose...I just went to Advanced Auto, up the street and picked up the hose for my truck model, took the other end, and had the local hose shop put it on it...

I could be mistaken here but I belive (quite certain) the ALt. belt only goes to the crank pulley and the power steering belt goes over the water pump from the crank pulley then to the P.S. pump, sounds like you have the blts revesed. Thats the way all the ones I've had and the 2 out in the yard with the same engine package are.

I found this picture of my 351M in my truck (pre-swap) I only had 2 belts. Like Duste commented, the ALT belt went around the bottom middle, and the Power steering went around the water pump, bottom back (closest to the block) pulley, and around the Power Steering Pump...hope it helps...

mine is the exact opposite and im really confused because everything lines up perfect the only reason I start questioning this because I had such a hard time getting belts. The only difference from the pic is that my crank pulley only has to groves and they are the same size and mine has the old style powersteering pump
