What do you think???????

Found this for $350 - Good deal or no???

1977 Ford 460 big block motor complete with 4 barrel carb, starter, altenator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, distributer, everything is there and engine does run.

Of course I risk engine being smoked since it's pulled. Would it be worth parting out in that case?

take an ignition module, some wire, and a battery and fire it up!

I would give that much if I was planning on doing a 460 swap and all of the accessories and brackets are present and are in good shape. That's a good chunk of the pain when it comes to doing a conversion.

You can start it and test run it like dlburch said, but it's not always as easy as hooking up a fuel line and a battery. Depending on what kind of gauges it had, you may have to block off some ports. The P/S pump is going to puke as soon as it is started, and you don't want to run it very long without fluid in it. I wouldn't even give much credence to the results (other than the fact that it does/doesn't start and does/doesn't burn oil) because there could be any number of other problems that won't necessarily show up upon a short test run.

All in all, though, I think it would be worth the money if you want a 460 in your truck. If you don't, I wouldn't bother. 460s are very common around here and running engines are being sold for between $200 and $400 all the time. I could have a shed full of them, but I have no use for them and I wouldn't get my money back from parting them out.

I'm tracking...Wasn't sure if it was a deal to jump on, not in any hurry to have another engine taking up floor space of the shop.
