i have a 97 f250 hd xlt 4x4 351 auto been hard to start in the am with this cold have to crank it 20 sec or so to get it to start. From from reading these posts for yrs and thinking about it a bit i pulled the Dis cap off and took out rotor yes was all covered in carbon its only 3 months old. Hmm any help here "cheap parts?"
its a conrad rotor and cap. I cleaned the rotor up and put back on and the last 2 days has started fine even on the coldest day it was -5. I also i tried to pull codes and i got a code 33 if i did it right? code 33 in EGR not opening. but the check engine light is not on... any ideas this weekend gonna have a heat wave going to 40 ill have time to look things over
I'm pretty sure your truck uses OBD-II, so you can't pull the codes yourself. If it has a blue connector under the middle of the dash, you have to go to the dealer ($60-120 >:-( ) or find a parts store that will pull them (usually free :-) ). In either case, it certainly doesn't use 2-digit codes; that stopped in '90.
Steve its an 1997 F250HD old body that they still used OBD1 this is the connection i used. but i still did understand the needle swings on my volt meter it went L L L Pause L L L pause then one long pause then L L L pause then L L L
You're right. It's EEC-IV. I thought they quit that on every engine/body in '96, but I guess the heavy trucks (over 8500# GVWR) stayed with the old system. Interesting...
Anyway, what you got was 111 repeated for the KOEO and 111 repeated for the Continuous memory. 11 (on pre-91 EEC-IV) and 111 are the codes for "system OK", which means the computer isn't aware of the problem. Get a Haynes manual and do the individual component tests, starting with the IAC, TPS, ACT, & ECT. You should also check the obvious stuff like spark plugs & wires, coil connector, coolant level, fuel & air filters, and fuel pressure.
Anyway u learn something new everyday. talks i think i got the idea on how to view codes. and thats good that its not a bad sensor will check things out as the warm up comes. its a pain sometimes with this 97 trying to explain that its an old body style that uses 96 emisson controls and parts. But i order this truck in april 29 1997 and was built and shiped to my dealer in 28 days i needed the the 8800 gvw to carry my camper
