I put on a magnaflow muffler i found from an old ford bronco at the junk yard on to my 96 EB 5.0 with a 3in in/out ports exiting behind the wheel single exit. I was expecting something really loud but it was just as quiet as my stock muffler. im kind of baffled by it i thought some sound would come from a magnaflow muffler. i dont have a part number for it but now after 1 day of driving i think im going to go with flowmaster muffler just not sure what would be a good setup for my 5.0. any suggestions
funny i would but unfortunately i need to have the cats on and a muffler to pass the smog for california and emissions in arizona. (stationed in cali and need smog for base passes, resident of arizona)
oh yea... well id go with some shorties with a 3" y pipe high flow cat and magnaflow single in dual out muffler and exit out where ever u want with 2.5" pipes
How long is the Magnaflow? Longer is quieter. Oh, the Flowmaster will flow as bad or worse than the stock muffler FYI. I have Magnaflows on my Mustang and my truck and they make plenty of noise.
not sure if a magnaflow is considered loud or not,but yours won't be loud unless you do something about the stock cat(s),they make just about any muffler sound quiet.
Yeah a muffler is pretty much a waste on an otherwise original exhaust.. the stock cats are so restrictive you could run a straight pipe behind them and it still wouldn't be very loud.
Thanks for the FYI i am more aware of the situation now. if i were to put a magnaflow cat would that make any difference or would i have to replace exhaust manifolds with headers and get that y pipe with a high flow cat?
i have a single chamber and a gutted cat (i have a new one ill put on and take off when smog time comes). its still not very loud at all tho. still its not even really loud with the gutted cat i need to run pipe inside the cat that will run out straight through to the other side then maybe get a dual chamber for the rumble and loud sound (just when i get on it)
also the magnaflow cat you speak of, i had one put on recently in effort to make it louder with no luck, it dislodged and turned sideways then overheated and melted magnaflow refused to warranty it it was only weeks after i put it on. they said my truck was running to rich or lean which i find funny. i have an air fuel meter on there it tells me otherwise
If you have both stock cats, the only way to get any sound out of it is a glasspack or torpedo pack which is a glass pack with a Y on it like a SIDO muffler.
