Half a year ago I replaced the E4OD with a ZF-5. It`s been working fine for about 3000 miles. One day, when accelerating in 5. gear from low speed (talking in the cell phone, no hands to change gear), the clutch was slipping. Have tried a few times, and it is slipping every time. What happend?
Have to say I have some play on the clutch pedal because of wear on the point where the rod to the master cylinder is attached to the pedal. But I have no problem to get in gear. The reason I write this now, is that I am going to replace the engine. Need some input what to look for while the engine is out. The truck is equipped with a LUK solid flywheel and clutch kit.
I have no slippage problem at normal daily driving.
Doesn`t really have any freeplay. But I can move it just a little if I use some power. Took the cover plate off the bellhousing, and found some oil in it (more then just some drops) This surprised me. I expected it to be dry in there and some dust from the clutch plate. But here it was oil and a strip of oil and dirt which has been thrown out from the flywheel.
I have a minor oil leakage from the top and back of the engine, but this cant "climb over the flywheel and cause the clutch to slip, or??
If the oil is coming from the transmission, I would expect to have some red color left since I am running atf.
There was no smell from the contamination I found in the coverplate.
Any one who have experienced something like this??
It's spring loaded, Reach up from the front and push the end of the fork rearward by hand, you should feel it move then stop... Thats the free play, If you do not get this free play then throwout could be riding the pressure plate hard, thus slip the clutch. The throwout should not touch the pressure plate at all, relaxed!
Ok, back home again from work.
Was under the truck today, trying to move the clutch lever rearwards. Seems to be no freeplay. What can cause this. Is the throw out bearing the only solution, or could it be something about the movement of the slave cylinder?
Push it from the rear to get the slave cylinder to retract, then move the fork back and forth to see if the throwout slides on the nose.
If so, push and release the clutch, and check it again. You should be able to grab the fork at the slave and it should move rather easy, two fingers easy... The main thing is to ensure you can move it by hand.
You can also spin the slave pushrod to see if it's under pressure and applying pressure to fork thus the throwout is against the pressure plate.
