Seeing if anyone else has encountered this. I plugged in my digital code reader, on my fathers 1991 F150 Lariat and entered in the vin and year of the vehicle, I do a KOER test and come back with a "No communication with vehicle" prompt? Cant do any testing on it at all. I checked everything else, EEC, is brand new refurb from autozone, the other computer did the same thing. Just trying to see if there is any insight. Also, I plugged this truck up to a SnapOn code reader and diag machine, and same thing, "No Communication with vehicle". Just trying to help my father out, thanks all.
Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link to info for pulling codes without a code reader if all else fails.
However check for a blown fuse, possibly the cigarette lighter fuse to get the reader working.
Definetely, sounds like a good start. I never thought about checking the fuses. I know about the self test, but wasnt wanting to really check on blinking lights, might have to be a last ditch effort, before I replace the entire wiring harness. Speaking of which, anyone have a link on removal and replace for the engine and dash wiring harness?
I have seen more than one person post stating they can't get their fancy code reader to work on this vintage of truck. Use the link above to check for codes using a jumper wire or cough up ~$25 and purchase a Equus code reader dedicated for use with the Ford EEC-IV.
Yeah, I am using an auto Xray for Ford, I use it on my Mustang constantly and never had a problem. Hell, I have even used it on the truck a few times, but after I rebuilt the motor and transmission and upgraded the alternator, I had a short in the dash harness, that i replaced with a new fusible link and all was good, but now cant seem to get my reader to work, it still works with my mustang. Anyway, I am gonna run through thre fuses on my my next day off, start there.
