hey guys i'm new to the forum and was having an issue. i have a '02 f-250 5.4 gas and i'm getting a code p0125. says coolant temp sensor not reading temperature for closed loop. also my temp guage isn't giving me a reading. so i was thinking that the temp sensor is bad so i bought a new one and went to change it out. well in my manual it's supposed to be on top of the manifold next to the thermostat housing but there is only a plug in it. no sensor. so my question is where is it? is there an alternate location or maybe a totally different issue that you guys might know about? help me out i'm baffled
i'm not so sure. i'll check it out but i think it's not reading a temp because the sensor is out. my guage isn't registering a temp either. a bad thermostat my engine would overheat not stay cold. and i mean below the "C" reading on the guage. the guage works it just doesn't register a temp.
If the thermostat is stuck open it will not heat up enough to reach operatng temp. It is a lot easier to put a thermostat in your truck than pull the intake to install a new cylinder head temp sensor. I put thermostats in all the time for this code. Just my professional opinion. Take it or leave it.
I agree but instead of just replacing the t-stat after it's been driven grab the upper radiator hose if it's not hot then there is your problem, have you checked your coolant level? and condition

That is the easiest way to determine if your T-stat is opening. You'll also be able to feel the coolant flowing through the hose.
It's very odd that you say there is only a plug where the sensor should be as that is what provides the reading to your gauge. Are you sure it's a plug and not a physically broken sensor? The CHT Art is referring to is under the intake manifold and requires the manifold to be removed to replace it.
yeah the t-stat is opening. checked it out the hose gets hot. and it's definately a plug. need an allen wrench to remove it. about removing the manifold...is that a difficult job? does anyone know if maybe there is an alternate location for the ECT sensor?

That's definitely strange as the manual only shows it being on the top in front of the manifold.
yeah the CHT is definately there. the coolant level is full and as far as the quality goes it could use a change out. i'll see about getting a temp measurement but cant guarantee anything because i don't have a t-mometer
A thermostat and gasket is $10.00 from autozone. It takes 15 minutes to install. I am 99.99999% sure it will fix your problem. You have come here seeking advise, do yourself a favor and take it.

so you think that will get my temp guage registering a temperature? even though the t-stat actually works? thanks!!!
