Question on 2002 Starter

I have a 02 7.3 that needs a starter will not engage. Just spins but will not engage flexplate

When pulling out i notice it only uses 2 bolts but noticed a third hole on the left side . The parts house lists a 2 bolt or 3 bolt starter.
Which one is correct for an 02 with an automatic? Or can i use either?

I just changed the starter in my 02 and it had a 2 hole. don't know if it was the original or if the previous owner had it changed.
