I am looking for a 4-5 inch exhaust system for my 86 f-250 with a 6.9L in it. I have read enough post here to cause my eyes to bleed and can not find anything about a company selling systems other than for the 97 and newer crowd. Went to a bunch of diesel performance web sites but they only have systems for 97 and newer. Does anyone have knowledge as to where I can get a system at. My truck is a 1986 F-250 4X4. Thanks for any and all help.
really doubt you need a 4-5 inch exhaust system for a 6.9. We have a few old internationals with 6.9s, one of them does infact have a 4'' exhaust simular to a dt466 turbo diesel but it does nothing to help to 6.9. The IDI 6.9 is a non turbo diesel engine, upgrading the exhaust only helps a little in the area's you don't want your 6.9 reving to. The turbocharged diesels are the ones that get decent gains with a free flowing exhaust.
Sad truth is the 6.9 in stock form will never be a hot rod, but it can do what it was designed for and that's take a beating and pull some weight. Banks made a turbo kit but they are getting harder to find for the 6.9. I'd keep that 6.9 as close to stock as possible and make sure the lift pump has been recently replaced... I made that mistake and it killed my injector pump, or at least I say it did.
