I need some input on the the door ajar light that tends to stick on, in my 98 Expedition. I have been having this problem off and on all week, when the light is on the dome light stays on. I have been told that this is a common problem and they (sensor) goes out quite often. Is this true? Or is the dealer yanking my chain? The replacement has been quoted in the couple hundred dollar range, is this something that can be replaced by me or does Ford get my money?
Any input on this would be much obliged.
Yep, it is a common problem. Our Ford dealer said the problem can usually be fixed by prying up the sensor cover and spraying a little bit of WD-40 (that magic elixer) on the sensor.
There are other threads all over the forum withteh same problem. Soak the door side latch (2 switches inside) with WD-40. Problem gone and battery saved!
