400 timing gearset new ?s
I am going to install a new timing chain / gears on my 400 this weekend, I purchased a set that has the 0/ +4 /-4 lower gear and will be setting on the 0 / straight up. This should give me back the performance that is hidden by retarded factory/feds timing set. My question is what if any changes in tune up specs will be required with the new gearset. Will I need to rejet carb (2bbl) or alter distributor timing, plug heat range, etc.

I would like to hear some feedback on this subject also, as i plan on doing this within the next few months hopefully. I dont think it will change anything, but the 400 engine section might also be a good place to look.

Makes a slight difference, but without other corrective action, such compression, cam, carburetion, headers, & head work, (some or all, in that order) don't expect it to become a firebreather.
