My Dad's 1989 F250, 4x4, 351 cu. in., manual transmission has been running poorly.
Every time you try to give it some gas, instead of power you get sputters. It smells like it might be running to rich, but I don't know jack about older gas engines that are new enough to not be carbed.
Also it seems to run slightly better on cooler days, but doesn't seem to change with varying operating temps.
It could be a bunch of things. Do error code scans & Fuel pressure test at the fuel rail. Between the two, you'll know how to proceed! A wild guess could be a failing fuel pressure regulator. Air is denser on colder days. Then there's the MAP sensor. Error code scans & F/P tests take some guessing out of it.
Its been at a ford dealer twice for this problem, but the numb-nuts there don't know how to work on an older truck, lol.
I'll check those things on sunday or monday.
