55 Fuel Sending Unit Mounting Position

55 Fuel Sending Unit Mounting Position
When I removed the fuel sending unit on my 55 and discovered my rotted-out float, I did not pay attention as to what position the rod needs to point inside the tank. Considering the shape of the tank, my guess is 6 o-clock position. I would appreciate it if someone could confirm this.

If I'm not mistaken, the holes on the sender will only allow you to install it in one place.
But if that is wrong, I beleive it needs to be mounted parallel with the length of the tank with the float aft.
