Question which clutch?

I am about to have a new clutch put in my F250. I have four options for clutch kit manufacturers: Westling, LUK, Centerforce, or Ford. Which one is the best? I am also considering have the master cylinder, slave cylinder, and hose done as well. Since the slave is in the bellhousing and comes with most clutch kits, I figure to have it done while the tranny is out. I have read here that you should replace the master, slave, and hose at the same time. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks

which clutch?

Good-
Westling and Luk are both stock type replacements. Check to see if they are new or re-man. Re-man should require a core while new should not. New is better.

Better-
I think the ford unit would be a quality peice but I have no direct knowledge of it.

Best-
Centerforce are good clutches but pricey. Don't go for the most radical unit. It'll be grabby and hard to drive. Get the one that says it has 30% more holding power.

I think you're wrong about the slave cylinder coming with the clutch. It should just come with the bearing that fits onto the slave. This is a place where quality counts. Do not buy the cheap-o slave. Those slave cylinders do wear out and you don't want to pull your tranny twice.

Other tips for success.
1 Replace the pilot bearing, it can be interesting but it's necessary.
2 Have your flywheel turned.

Hope that helps. Catchya later.

which clutch?

I would go with the Ford clutch which is remanufactured but they are the best. I would also STONGLY reccomend doing the slave master and line. Alot of people say the Ford stuff is pricey but I worked at a Ford dealer in the parts depatment any there were many times when people would install a cheaper unit and end up buying the Ford unit. Buy cheap Buy twice.

which clutch?

I am curious. Any of you folks ever heard of a Cumberland brand clutch. That was put in my truck about 30,000 miles ago. Seems to work fine, but tends to be a bit grabby, kinda of like it is either in or out with little in between so you have to really be delicate with the pedal when you engage it or it will bang into engagement, especially when cold and taking off in first. However, that may be due to a binding slave cylinder.

which clutch?

The problem alot of times is when the pressure plate is remanufactured to much material(metal) is removed . This causes driveabilty issues. Cumberland might be a regional brand so I can't give you any input as I have no experience with that brand.
When it comes to clutches/ slave cylinders etc I always figure it's better to go top shelf.

which clutch?

I put a Ram Clutch in my F150 5.0. I put just the replacement one in. It is suposed to exceed oem specifications. They had one that offers 30% more gripping power. I decided to go with ram because with centerforce you buy the pressure plate and disk sepperatly. Unless you get the centerforce dual firction kit, but they want 300 + dollars for that one. The ram clutch kit comes with the plate, disk, and throw out berring. It cost around $150. Most clutch kits dont come with the slave cylindar. If it was me i would replace just the slave cylindar. The hose is a hard plastic, hardly ever goes bad, and the clutch master cylindar is easly replaced later on. I would recomend having the fly wheel resurfaced to get maximum life out of the new clutch, and for smoother take offs. I orderd my clutch from Summit, they did not list it in the cataloge. Had to call them.

Let me know what you decide to do.
