I have just bought a 97 f350 psd 4x4 crew cab with a 5 speed. Can a chip be used on a manual psd? I also read somewhere that there is not a super chip for the 97. Is there another make out there? Forgive me if my info is wrong, and thanks for any guidance. By the way, this is my first truck, and I don't think I will ever be without a Ford diesel again. I absolutely love it.
Welcome to the board!!!
Yes, you can put a chip in a manual truck. It's all a matter of getting one with the program code for a manual truck. I don't know about the availability of a "SuperChip" for your truck, I personally have a Diablo Delta chip, which gives me a three-position toggle switch, and two optional programs. One position of the switch is stock, one is for towing, and one is for dyno runs, and removing Dodges from my rear view mirror. You can get the Diablo Delta chip in a number of places, but I'd suggest you contact Ken at this site, and support the board. He really knows what he's doing.
You might also consider asking Ken about a Micro Tuner, I know the SCMT he sells can be used on 1994-2002 models. I have a little newer truck, but the difference has been amazing and I cant brag enough on the Tuner.
I don't think so much whether or not they make a chip is based on the year as much as the ECU code. I have a '97 and they didn't make one for it , so I went with the tuner.
Unless I'm mistaken, you can get a four page chip for any box code, because the four page chip overwrites the code in the truck. Hopefully Ken will chime in here.
True about the 4 bank chips. In about 70% of the cases we can even get you a good working 4 bank chip even if you can't find the box code or all the decals have been removed. By supplying your computer part number, year and whether its an automatic or manual we can nail it. With 94.5-1997 we can nail it about 90% of the time because there are less box codes to cross.
Thanks for the information! I definitely want to get some additional performance out of my truck (although the power seems to be awesome.) I am planning to pull a travel trailer. Unfortunately, my dual mass flywheel just went out , so I going to have to wait till summer to put any more $$$$ into the truck. I will be going to Ken to help support this site plus he seems to be an expert.
