Transmission woe's

Ok I decided to service the trans myself(4r100 deep pan) I read everything that I could find including videos at powerstroke help.com. Not sure on the oil that autozone reccomended (max life dex/merc) everyone says it will take 10 quarts including the converter. where am I going wrong. I've already used 12 quarts and still don't look full to me.

Read this. LINK
It should answer your questions. And this is with the original pan.

Yup. Whoever those "everyone" folks are, they steered you wrong.

But Rick didn't.

If the fluid you bought says something like, "For use in vehicles that formerly used DexronIII/Mercon" you're good-to-go. I believe Penzoil says this on their jugs.

If you have Mercon V, they re-formulated it to be usuable in 4R100's, so you're still good!

It is very confusing since they say now that you can use safely certain brands. Mercon V is my choice although I used the Napa mercon V compatable fluid. It would also help to take the time to fill out your signature so we know what year your truck is and so on. 8 quarts is the norm for a trans pan change out, not sure on the converter ammount, somebody will be by.

Why, yes!

Yes we are!

Stick around after you get the job finished, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

There's at least SOMEONE around here who's virtually an expert in almost any area of problems these trucks have.
