low on power

ok so my truck died on me a few weeks back i thought it was my ipr so i changed it but wile i had it apart i looked in the fuel bowl and it was a mess so i cleaned itall out and found lots of junk . i put it all back together truck ran great for a week now it feels like its low on power and idles bad

im getting 2 codes p0472 which is a ebp code

could that be from a dirty exaust tube or bad sensor
or because i have no back pressure

and p1298 idm failure but could that be from the idm mod iv done

any help is much appreciated

My truck acted the same. Died several times and was tough to crank back up and when started it ran TERRIBLE. I threw a p0472 and cleaned out my sensor and the tube. No more p0472. I changed my super dirty fuel filter and a new CPS from international. Truck still ran crappy. I let it idle for 30 minutes at a time several different times. It started to smooth out with each time which was odd to me so I drove it twice more and it died both times after only a few miles. I finally decided to take it in and on the way it started running perfectly again. So instead of the shop I went to O'Reilly's and got a bottle of Lucas. Running just fine since.

But keep in mind, the original manuals say these engines need no additive. They were made to run off of a different diesel blend though so after seeing mine act the way it did and completely resolve after the fuel lines were treated I'll probably be treating my fuel on occasion just because when and where I broke down were bigger inconveniences than I could've ever imagined and it was due to poor fuel quality, something preventable. I'm sure I'll see much opposition for this post but that's my $.02 and it's just that.

Did you clean out the screen inside the filter canister? There is small round hole located inside the canister on the drivers side. Inside that hole is a screen and you can clean by gently scrapping it with a q-tip with the cotton removed. Its purpose it to allow air to vent back to the tank. If it becomes clogged up poor performance will result due to air trapped in fuel.

Salvage yard. Not sure of the part number. Looking at the stuff that comes off of these screens I personally wouldn't just lose it all together. I imagine that running it a bit would be ok, like to the salvage yard to get another, but wouldn't just forego it forever. But that's just my $.02 again.
