This post probably belongs elsewhere, but since you guys have all been whining about how cold it is out in your garages and shops, I thought I'd pass this along. Not all of us have heated workspaces - mine is only heated when I'm working in it. Consequently, the garage usually spends a lot of time at or well below freezing. And so does everything in it including the chemicals, paint, and cleaning supplies. Well, I found a way to keep all that stuff from freezing up and getting ruined or busting and making a mess all over the place when it thaws. Most of us probably have a beer fridge full of beer, sodas, and kitchen overflow. Or at least every real manly man's garage that I've ever been in has one! Clear out a shelf in the fridge (you aren't likely to be reaching for many cold beers when it's 20 degrees out anyway) and shove everything that you don't want frozen in on the empty shelf. A refrigerator has so much insulation in it that anything stored inside will likely never freeze. The weather here hadn't been above 25 for 2 weeks and it's been dipping below zero at night. Everything I had stuffed in the fridge was just fine while the Armor All and Windex that I forgot and left out were frozen solid and busted. Try it. It works!
Good tip! I learned the hard way about what can and cannot be stored in an unheated garage some years ago when I moved here to New Hampshire. Most folks in the coldest climates have basements. That's where I keep all my "freezeables", but if you don't have one and have no children to worry about getting into the special shelf in the fridge, then that's a good place too. My basement stays at about 50-57 degrees all winter and 60-65 degrees all summer.
