Tire PSI question

Hey guys, got a simple question for ya.

My 2wd F-150's door sticker states that the front tires should be at 35psi with rears at 41 psi. My tires have a max psi of 35. I've always kept the psi at 35 all around. Is it safe to air the rears up at 41?

I'd stay with what the tire manufacturer recommends as 41 psi would be overinflated for those tires. I'm not sure how Ford came up with those numbers; it may have to do with the tires that came with the truck.

The truck came shod with Firestones originally. They had a max of 35psi aswell. I don't remember if they were aired up to 41 psi or not. I wouldn't think 6 psi would make a difference!

For safety sake DO NOT over inflate the tires. That's just asking for problems. Leave them at 35.

Tire PSI question

Well Right now I have El Dorado H/T's 235/75R15s. I'm putting on some Yokohama H/Ts before I sell it.

35psi is really light, they bubble under the weight of the truck unloaded, but the handling is great.

Tire PSI question

Whats the load rating of that tire? My BFGs are C and they take up to 50psi max but I keep them about 30psi for even wear. Have you ever tried the chalk trick for seeing if your tires are at the proper inflation?

Tire PSI question

Justin,

The factory max on these tires are 35psi. 30psi? I keep the tires on my 4x4 F-150 at around 45psi for all fours.

The chalk test? How does that work? Do you draw a line across the width of the tire and drive it to see where the wearing is at?

30 psi does seem low to me too. I have around 45 in my BFG's (load range C 50 psi). They seem to be wearing just fine.

Tire PSI question

A lot depends on having the tire on the correct width rim. If the tire is on a rim that is on the narrow side, it will tend to cause the tire to wear more in the middle of the tread similar to an over-inflation issue. Likewise, if the rim is too wide, it can cause the tire to wear more on the outer edge of the tread like under-inflation. If the tire is on the right size rim, it will be much more forgiving of pressure differences.

Tire PSI question

Ford put out a TSB on tire pressure, load, & wear, and I have it scanned & OCR'ed, but I can't attach it. I think I sent it & a few others to http://www.broncodata.com, but I don't know if he's put it up on the site yet. It has a chart & a couple of graphs that show how to figure proper pressure.
