Someone is offering me a TS 6-pos for $175. It's off an 02, so it'll need a reprogram ($50). Is $225 worth it? I know I need injectors to make it all work right, but I was just looking for an interim electronic upgrade (currently run a Superchips tuner). No need to crank out black smoke, but towing power and economy are the goals. I know I could buy a TW or something else for $400+, but I was just trying to save a little dough.
And how do you get to the ECU to plug this in? Under the dash or under the hood?
Well, get it programmed for your stock injectors first, and yes, the max you will get is about 80 horses. but thats just because you can only get so much fuel out of stock injectors. and once you get bigger injectors, send your chip in for a reburn at the same time. All your tunes will work for your stock injectors, you just wont notice any difference in the higher tunes.
As far as gains over superchips. you might not notice it with stock injectors but once you start modding your truck, you will notice a custom tuned chip over a superchip. Superchips are made for the masses, your going to want a tuned chip from people who work with our trucks and who focus on squeezing power out of our specific trucks.
I took a look this morning under the dash, and the PB assembly looks like it's off to the side..? There's a big aluminum bracket where I would think the computer would be, but that looks like a formidable task to remove that.
No prob. Your pcm is right behind the ebrake. But if you haven't had a chip in there before you have to take the pcm out of the truck like in the link.
If you plan on upgrading injectors later you can run Stage I tuning with stock injectors fine. My PHP chip is for Stage I's but I still have stock injectors.

Mine is to the right of the steering wheel, below the WTS light panel. Behind the black plastice there's a empty spot in the dash that the switch and cable will fit through.
I have heard of people putting the switch on the arm rest (It's a pain to get it there). Also I heard some talk of putting it where the cigarrette lighter thing is in the ash tray. I don't know if anyone has actually done it though.
