TS 6-pos question

Hey guys. Thought I would ask about this.

Someone is offering me a TS 6-pos for $175. It's off an 02, so it'll need a reprogram ($50). Is $225 worth it? I know I need injectors to make it all work right, but I was just looking for an interim electronic upgrade (currently run a Superchips tuner). No need to crank out black smoke, but towing power and economy are the goals. I know I could buy a TW or something else for $400+, but I was just trying to save a little dough.

And how do you get to the ECU to plug this in? Under the dash or under the hood?

Thanks!

DS

Buy it and send it to Bill at Power Hungry Performance.

Power Hungry Performance - Feed your hunger for POWER!

Of course, TW is good too, and I think he will reburn a chip for about $50 also.

In essence you would be getting the same thing I paid like $350 for. Good luck!

Yep, buy it for the 175 and get it reburned from either php or tw.

Thanks guys. How much flexibility am I going to have with stock injectors?

Isn't max HP increase on the order of 80HP (? torque) for stock AA injectors?

So out of 6 positions, I may have three that work (incl high-idle)...?

Make sense? After I replace the injectors, then the other positions will work, or am I due for a reprogram then too?

Well, get it programmed for your stock injectors first, and yes, the max you will get is about 80 horses. but thats just because you can only get so much fuel out of stock injectors. and once you get bigger injectors, send your chip in for a reburn at the same time. All your tunes will work for your stock injectors, you just wont notice any difference in the higher tunes.

I am just not sure I'll gain much over the Superchips. The on-the-fly tweaking would be a nice change, though.

Any explicit how-to's for doing this? I've always just plugged in my programmer to the OBD port.

Thats a pretty good link for chip install.

As far as gains over superchips. you might not notice it with stock injectors but once you start modding your truck, you will notice a custom tuned chip over a superchip. Superchips are made for the masses, your going to want a tuned chip from people who work with our trucks and who focus on squeezing power out of our specific trucks.

I took a look this morning under the dash, and the PB assembly looks like it's off to the side..? There's a big aluminum bracket where I would think the computer would be, but that looks like a formidable task to remove that.

Thanks for the link, James!

No prob. Your pcm is right behind the ebrake. But if you haven't had a chip in there before you have to take the pcm out of the truck like in the link.

FYI: Tony's price is $150 + shipping. One time. Further reburns are at no cost.

Pricier than I thought, but Tony is in demand and I figure this still gets me out ahead. $330 versus $475 or so.

Anyone have good mount ideas or pics for the switch ****? I thought I'd set it right next to the brake controller on a small homemade bracket.

That way I am "race ready"!

X2 fellas, please post pics or links to your switch install. Been looking at my OBS trying to figure out where I'd put it.

If you plan on upgrading injectors later you can run Stage I tuning with stock injectors fine. My PHP chip is for Stage I's but I still have stock injectors.

Mine is to the right of the steering wheel, below the WTS light panel. Behind the black plastice there's a empty spot in the dash that the switch and cable will fit through.

I have heard of people putting the switch on the arm rest (It's a pain to get it there). Also I heard some talk of putting it where the cigarrette lighter thing is in the ash tray. I don't know if anyone has actually done it though.
