I was recently wiring-in a battery lead to charge a breakaway box on a trailer. While connecting it to the battery lead on the starter solenoid, the wrench hit a ground and slightly sparked. Now my 1975 ford E-150 van will not run. It starts, but dies after about 1 second. I've pulled and checked the Carter yf carburetor, installed new plugs, rotor, distributor cap, and starter solenoid. My spark plug tester shows good spark while cranking. Would the resistor wire have failed?. The ignition system is a Duraspark II. Any ideas? Thanks.
Have you tried to run the engine with the add-on item disconnected?
(AS-IN: restore electrical system to original configuration?)
There IS a fuse-link in the alt. harness that might have opened, but I cannot see how that would cause the engine to fail to run after it runs a little.
It's in the black wire with yellow tracer, BTW, probably located near the starter relay.
