Exhaust question
My 91 F250 has a 2 pipes coming off of the exhaust manifolds back to a 4 bolt flange before the converter. The converter is bad; the tube that comes out of the top of it is broken and part missing. Is there a way to eliminate the 4 bolt flange without going to a replacement y-pipe? I didn't know if there was a 2 into 1 exhaust pipe (similar to the chrome single in -dual out muffler tips) that could take the place of a 4 bolt flange and come out at 2 1/4 inches. The flanged converters are expensive ($228) and the aftermarket converters are about $100. I am not against removing the converter, but I need a way around that 4 bolt flange.

The only way around the flange is to cut it off. I did this and bought a magna flow Y and put it on there, although the two pipes on the truck are closer together to get the Y in there. I had to weld on two pipes and widen them to the Y and weld it al together. Used a single 3'' exhaust after that with no cat. or you can do this and put on a single cat right after the Y and then complete your exhaust if you have no emissions testing in your area.

As far as I know, no testing in Kentucky. I am looking at doing a simple single exhaust. Nothing fancy. I can get a cheap aftermarket muffler to replace the stock swiss cheese muffler that is on the truck.
I have seen the y-pipe that dump the right side manifold into the tube that routes from the left side manifold. I didn't know if this style of y-pipe would restrict or possibly crack where the right side joins after some usage.
