which tranny to use

I have a 74 f-100 i-6 and am in the process of swapping in a 460. I'm looking for a good manuel to haul with. I have a tranny out of a 69 390 and i think it is a graany four speed, but was told it would be hard to get bellhousing and driveshaft for this tranny. Thanks for any ideas. I also have a free truck and parts for anyone interested.

I think the 460 and one of the 351s share the same bolt pattern. Im not sure if its the 351M or 351W. The bellhousing from the 390 will not work.

Just curious, but why do you want a manual tranny?
A C-6 will handle all the torque that 460 will put out, plus give you one less thing to do while drivng.

its the 351M that has the same bellhousing pattern. If i were you id go for a ZF 5 speed from an f350. its a granny low with Od 5th.

zf's aint cheap........i like the 4 speed myself..over the auto anyway. You got the granny and 4 low combo that will walk over most anything. and you dont have near as much power loss as u do with the auto
