i have an e 150 van that is ready to become a bon fire out here in michigan. i am having problems with the fuel system. i replaced all 3 pumps the rear cuz the sending unit rotted away , the high pressure one on the frame because it quite and the front tank one just because. the problem im having is that it just acts as thought it is running out of gas at times.i drove it two days about 170 miles and no problem then bam it justs starts starving for gas and dies.starts right back up and is fine or it may do this for awhile and straightens back up ..does this on either tank full or empty.took it to a shop in town and they couldnt get it to act up so no fix there.took to another shop had them check fuel pressure to see if that was an issue and they said it checks out fine.talked to another shop and they tell me i have a low voltage something with the computer, i dont know what else. in other words he couldnt fix it either. help i am at a lose here .
This may not help, but I had sort of the same issue. replaced both pumps on an F150. Ran really bad. Good fuel pressure, no scan codes. Then it hit me it ran like a champ with the scan tool connected. I then jumperd the fuel rest connector on the EEc plug and it ran fine. It seems I had low voltage going to the fule pumps. I drove it jumpered for a few days, then had to trace back through the wires to fine the corroded wire.
hey i am willing to try anything right bout now .which wires do i have to jump on the ecc? i already tried jumping the one on the pump relays to make sure they ran thats how i got to the booster pump being bad.i drove van today and it ran fine for about 20 miles then started acting up.ran terrible rest of the day.thought it wasnt gonna make it.should the booster pump run constantly when van is running?? i hear it and it sounds as though it is like going on and off on and off.cant really tell whats happening while driving i cant hear it then to much wind noise.i can get the van up to 55 while acting up but i have to give it only 1/8 to 1/4 throttle any thing else and she just bucks like a wild bronco and pops back through the air intake like its dying for gas.. HELP
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I COULD JUST PUT THE PUMPS ON A TOGGLE SWITCH AND JUST leave the original wires attached and just switch on the switch when it runs bad just to elliminate a power problem??? will running the pupms constantly ruin them???or is this a bad idea????help im desperate!!!!!!!!!!!
there is only one on the frame on the full size fords. The early to mid rangers had two filters, both located on the frame. One was a canister type, and the other was an inline. Probs I had was when the temp would get up to 85-90 outside, blasted thing would quit due to no volume of fuel in the rails. Finally changed both filters at once, problem solved.
