Power steering issues

I recently replaced the steering box in my '87 because the original one was leaking like a sieve and very loose. I put all the lines back on, primed it like it said to do, and even gave it a power steering system flush to get everything out of the lines. Now though, it doesn't seem like the power steering is working very well if at all. I can't turn the wheel at an idle without really putting some strength into it. Any thoughts on what I might have done or what would be wrong?

no thoughts? I checked and rechecked the fluid and bled it all out, but im still having issues. Quick question though, could it maybe be that I used actual power steering fluid instead of ATF? If I kick the idle up to around 1400 theres no problem, so I'm not quite sure about what the deal is.....

Are the hoses in the proper location? Switched?

yeah, they only go in one way (one is a smaller fitting than the other). like I said, at a higher idle it works great, but at a standard idle, it doesn't want to work so well.

I dunno man, it may be pump-related? I know before I drill my pressure hose fitting I was having an okay steering assist at low idle (550 rpms) but I wanted pinky steering, so after I was done with the fitting and the pressure relief valve and spring (so now the pump moves more fluid and at a higher pressure) I was having awesome easy steering the moment the engine sped up a bit (like 800 rpms), but my low-idle steering assist was slightly worse - I can live with it tho, as I never steer while just idling stationary, but this experience suggest to me that maybe your issue is now in the pump...

Yeah, thats what I was wondering too HOWEVER, it seemed strange that before (with the old box) there was no problem with steering at any idle speed, twenty minutes later with a new box installed, I'm having this problem......maybe they gave me the wrong box?

My thoughts were the wrong box, that is why I was wondering if the in and out are switched.
Do you still have the old box, I would do some internet searching (manufacturer)if the possibility of the boxes could be the issue.
